From Russia with Love

My first fanart from the amazingly awesome anime, Le Chevalier D'Eon. This is Ekatarina-- or Empress Catherine the Great of Russia. She's totally an awesome character in the anime-- even though she's only in 5 episodes. ^^ The historical person herself was way awesome too. :3 I'm a sucker for Russian history.

To sum up history (and kinda the anime), Catherine was the wife of Tsar Peter III, who was-- to put it bluntly- incompetent. He might have been mentally challenged, and enjoyed his days playing with toy soldiers and hanging dead rats from the ceiling. He was quite incapable of ruling Russia, which was kinda in turmoil at the time. Fun guy, huh?

Anyway, Catherine got a number of nobles on her side and lead a coup against Peter, took over the throne, and had him locked up. Eventually she may have had him smothered, but either way, natural death or murder, Peter III died in Prison and Catherine went on to become Catherine II of Russia, or Catherine the Great-- the Enlightened Despot.

Catherine the Great is © herself...I guess, even if she's been dead since the 1790s.
